CHIRP Transducers

CHIRP transducers were first introduced in 2012 and are now available in a wide range of frequencies and mounting options. They provide a major step forward in underwater image resolution. Conventional transducers operate at one or two frequencies, typically 50kHz and 200kHz. CHIRP transducers sweep across a range of frequencies to give better coverage and to see the fish that a conventional model might miss. They are available in either single-band or dual-band models.

Airmar makes CHIRP transducers for most major fishfinder and sounder brands including Garmin, Furuno, Lowrance, Raymarine and Simrad. Garmin and Raymarine also make their own transducers for use with their equipment.

AIRMAR SINGLE-BAND TRANSDUCERS

Single-band transducers operate in only one of the three possible CHIRP frequency bands: the High band (H), the Medium band (M) or the Low band (L).

Many CHIRP sounders and fishfinders can only handle single-band transducers.

Check your sounder or fishfinder specifications to see whether it is single-band or dual-band and choose a matching transducer.

AIRMAR DUAL-BAND TRANSDUCERS

Dual-band transducers operate in two CHIRP frequency bands simultaneously: typically the Low & Medium bands (LM) or the Low & High bands (LH).

Dual-band CHIRP sounders and fishfinders are usually higher-priced than single-band models.

Check your sounder or fishfinder specifications to see whether it is single-band or dual-band and choose a matching transducer.

GARMIN TRANSDUCERS

Garmin makes a wide range of single-band and dual-band transducers using CHIRP technology in the low, medium or high bands. They also make CHIRP transducers that use their proprietary DownVü and SideVü technology.

These transducers are for use with Garmin fishfinders and sounders only.
